Titel: Increasing Psychic Reliability

Carry out the experimenr in a state of grace. Th eexperimenters, the judges, the subjects, everybody in the enviroment should have reached some kind of harmonius agreement.

In our day-to-day activity doing these trials at one trial per day, it is almost as though we had carried out a sacrament to the factors (powers) controlling the psychic functioning that we were asking to manifest. The sacrament might involve lunch and ice cream, general play, and we could accept success.

Grace coluld mean harmony or comfort or total agreement on success, and the absence of resistance. And sacrament is a reminder that all of this i going on.

The three factors faith, hope, and love. We can translate faith into belief: filling ouerselves with a strong belief that what we want to accomplich can come about, and banishing doubt as completely as possible. The late Kenneth Batcheldor (1982) emphasized that belief may be critical to macro-PK - and not just plain belief, but a real thorough-going belief, complete belief. By hope, we mean an expectation of that which is very likely. This could be translated into multiple visualizing or imaging an outcome in its myriad forms: all possible outcomes that are associated with success in the experiment from what is happening in the trial to jumping up and down at the successful writing of a very positiv article. Finally, love colud translate into strong, positive emotions, into caring, connectedness, and meaning.

Interestingly, Matthew Manning (1982) describe three ingredients in his successful PK performances. In order to make things happen, Matthew says that he believes very strongly that they will happen, he expects them to happen, and he desires that they happen.

We might have every member of the group using a pendelum and have them ask the pendelum if there are any mattters that should be settled before we begin the experiment. Are the conditions appropriate? Let the part of you that knows tell the other part of you automatically, through some ideomotor activity. Perhapes one could even ask the pendelum when to begin the experiment, ehen is the time right.

One thing that seems to be an enemy of psi is behavioral inhibition. There are some folks who, if the psi mouse shouted in their ear at 110 decibels, it couldn't get them off their rear ends to do anything. They don't so anything that is unexpected and for which they do not have any rational justification. When you get into the psi lab, this takes the form of a person who has to have a justification for every call he makes. Oops, I want to be sure that I haven't called too many stars, I feel a star coming out, but wait a minute, I may have called too many stars. So let me consider this a bit. That is the question of inhibitation, an unwillingness to act on the basis of something that seems to be pushing without some clear external justification.

Another kind of problem that can crop up is response stereotype. What that means is doing the same thing, accomplishing the same goal, in exactly the same way att all times. We see a lot of this in ouer psi experiments where people tend to call one symbol after another. Or not to call a double or something of that kind - an imposition upon the free flow of information

Anxiety, ego involvement, overconcern, or ver-driveness can do this. Psychologists note that if you are too driven for something, then what happens is that you tend to energize the dominant parts of your response hierarchy.

Trust: You believe in the good quality or character of something. Trust means that yoy reduce the level of anxiety.

Faith: If you believe that something is going to happen, you don't have to make it happen, do you? The winds of grace are always blowing, but you must set your sails.

If you want to learn more about how psi functions, then I suggest you read a book in English translation, unless you happen to read Chinese, called the Tao Te Ching. I think that volume is very suggestive regarding the frames of mind in which psi might find expression.

We have been trained to view the experimental, scientific enterprise in a way that simply is not conducive to the occurrence of the phenomenea that we are intrested in, Nor is it necessary for scientific rigor.
